<mikeB> Thanks to our friends from Finland for posting their reviews of this

project on KIDPROJ would you all like to discuss the project for the next half

hour just to help Woill Parks in the design of his next project.

<mikeB> Are there any comments on the 'lesson plans' for example did you have

enough time to read and discuss them as a group?

<A-MarkH> Perhaps someone should moderate?  Will you Moderate, Kelli?

<Thomas> My favourites are week 8 and 9.

<Kelli> its hard for us to meet other than on these days

<A-MarkH> One thing that I would like to offer at this point is a few

technical improvements that we have made...

<A-MarkH> which should allow you to review your lesson plans on-line

<Kelli> Which topics did you like the least and why??

<A-MarkH> would it help if you ran by the topics again really quickly?

<Kelli> Which topics did you like or dislike and why??

<LouiseA> We are trying to decide which topic we liked best,all of them were

very interesting!!!

<Kelli> Idid not like the one about the water

<Thomas> Health and education, because there was so much talk about costs of

medical care.

<Kelli> what do you feel we accomplished with the UNICEF talk//

<LouiseA> I think we acomplished alot of things...People were able to express

their opinions on alot of topics which were all very important..

<LouiseA> It was good to have international input-a range of

cultures,backgruonds etc

<LouiseA> What do you think so far Kristi?

<Kristi> well its going pretty good

<LouiseA> What was your fave topic?

<Kristi> what else does will waant to know?

<Kristi> mine was the environment and the quiz

<Kristi> Who all is with you in UK

<LouiseA> No Stacy is not here,she has been very ill lately:-(

<A-Mikael> Louise, is Will there tonight?

<LouiseA> Will is not with us tonight...

<A-Mikael> Louise, I am sorry to hear that..

<LouiseA> Mike says he might not be able to come on line

<A-Mikael> It would be nice if we could continue next year... do you think

Bill is ready to go on?

<LouiseA> Thomas-have you been in on any of the topics? What did you think?

<Kristi> what topic didn't you like?

* A-Mikael is wondering is there will be a new project 1994...

<Thomas> Louise: I weren't here every week but some were quite nice.

<LouiseA> I foung the disabilities topic hardest to talk about...

<Kristi> i thought it wasn't that bad just akward

<LouiseA> I was afraid of offending someone or something!!!

<Thomas> Sure. The disabilities were the hardest because I don't have any

contact with disabled children.

<Kristi> what are some suggestions for 1994 topics?

<LouiseA> Same here Thomas

<Kristi> me either but i didn't want to offend anyone either

<Kristi> are you all going to be here the11th and the 18th?

<Thomas> If the school is open, yes.

<Kristi> cool

<LouiseA> We have written to our minister for further and higher

education.....

<Kristi> what community actions did we acheive?

<Thomas> None.

<LouiseA> about ther street kids in Brazil,still waiting for a reply

<Kristi> louise did you get any new support from last week?

<Kristi> what did you say to him?

<Kristi> why not thomas

<LouiseA> we are not here next week

<Thomas> No one here is interested.

<LouiseA> but we will be on the 18th

<Kristi> we have a biweekly column in our newspaper called "Kids On-Line"

<Kristi> what do you mean? all of you guys are right?

<LouiseA> We asked him what the Brithish government is doing for the kids in

Brazil...

<Kristi> are, right?

<Thomas> All the politicians here only care about how nice the president will

have it in his new home that costed 300 millions.

<LouiseA> Maybe it isn't that bad Thomas!!

<Thomas> Finland's economy is going straight towards h***!

<LouiseA> We had our open evening lasat week...

<LouiseA> Why Thomas?

<Thomas> Everyone blames it on the depression.

<LouiseA> We are in Recession here aswell...

<Kristi> ours is unstable our pilots just ended a strike for more money

<LouiseA> Things are supposed to be getting better

<Thomas> In the 80's everyone spent money like if it was scrap.

<LouiseA> We just had the Budget here

<LouiseA> Money has been taken out of arms and put iit into education and

heaith,(not much though)

<Lucas> What are you talking abaut?

<Kristi> economy

<Thomas> There are lot and lots of taxes here. We have an income tax of about

50%, but now we've also got some strange taxes. Soon they will put taxes on

the taxes.

<LouiseA> WOW Thomas that is very high!!!

<Thomas> But that also means that the cost of medical care is lower.

<A-Mikael> The unemployment in Finland is over 20 per cent so that is reason

why the taxes are so high..

<LouiseA> We do not have to pay for medical care here

<Thomas> But then the government spend the money on stupid things like buying

a mountain!

<Mickey> our goverment is somwhat like that

<LouiseA> Unemployment here is quite high,nothing like 20% though

<LouiseA> Why did they buy a mountain?!

<Thomas> They thought it would become a nice skiing resort.

<Mickey> louise our unemploment here is also high

<LouiseA> Maybe they think a sking resorert will bring in money and jobs...

<Mickey> because we just closed down Campell's soup alot of people are being

laid off

<LouiseA> We have about 3 million unemployed,not sure what %

<Thomas> Yeah, but it will take some time. And during that time the economy

will become even worse.

<Oli_> We have about 6% unemployed, thats about 20k people

<A-Mikael> Not to mention the mental health of the unemployed... the brains

shrinks when you do nothing..

<LouiseA> Why has the economy got so bad Thomas?

<Mickey> alot of people are worried about losing their jobs ....

<Mickey> there for not being able to support their famlies

<A-Mikael> Louise, one reason is the Finnish economy was very dependent on th

Soviet Union...

<LouiseA> I see...

<A-Mikael> and when Soviet collapsed alot of companies made big losses...

<Mickey> lets move on

<Thomas> When it split, we couldn't trade with it anymore, and we don't trade

with so many countries. People lost their jobs.

<LouiseA> OK Mickey-to what?

<Mickey> how about ... any suggestions

<LouiseA> What about some new topics and projects for 1994?

<Oli_> suggestions?

<Mickey> louise how about what children are doing fo rtheir health ...

<Mickey> just a suggestion

<LouiseA> I said earlier-we have written to our minister for further and

higherc education about the street kids in Brazil,(hoping something will

develop)
