What is an Iceberg Tongue?

Dave,

Do you know what an iceberg tongue is?

Hi Sara,

I am glad you have enjoyed our project. I have never heard of an iceberg tongue, but we have a glacier tongue a few miles from here. It is shown on the map as pushing over 5 miles into the Ross Sea. It is named the Erebus Glacier Tongue. Glaciers are flowing like rivers only slower. The Erebus Glacier pushes ice many miles out into the sea forming a long peninsula of ice. On the map, some glaciers have tongues, and others do not.
