I hope you have all been browsing and reading about the Indians on the web sites I sent you. Amandahas now joined the 'class' from Delmar. She and Ashley read some of the stories and prayers and have written their thoughts down here for you to see. Please write back and make some comments on what they have written.
We still have some unfinished 'assignments' before we close out this chapter of our course and move on to October's work.
Olya...can you tell us how many hours you are ahead of GMT? You are GMT +?
The rest of you... what is the latitude and longitude of Ekaterinburg, Russia and of our own town - Delmar/Salisbury?
Ok... I sent each of you the copy of the "Snake and the Big Feet." Read what Ashley says....
I read " The Snake With Big Feet." I thought that it was just like The Frog Prince. This story is like The Frog Prince because nobody liked the snake because of his feet, He met a chief and he LOVED his daughter and he wished and wished that he could be a human so he could marry the cheif's daughter. The snake went into a tepee and when he walked out he was a young man from the medicine man. The Frog Prince is the same as the snake with big feet because they both wanted to be a human and they became one. The prince was turned into a frog and was a prince before, but the snake was already a snake.

Dear Olya,
My name is Ashley Workman. I've written to you before but you have yet to write back. I read a story called "The Snake With Big Feet" and it reminded me of "The Frog Prince" I just wanted to know if you had a story like the frog prince or the snake with big feet in any Russian folktales.
Your friend,
Ashley
In my opinion I think that the Indians worship the mother earth and mother nature the way some people worship god. In the Indians "Native American Commandments" and the Indian "Sacred Instructions" it says that we should not take from the earth what we do not need. We should not abuse our powers, we should respect mother earth. I think that people today do not care about mother earth. Mother Earth to some people is just another place to throw their trash, or another way to make money. That is how we got all the rivers and ponds. Now there is nowhere for some people to cool off without a long drive. I think the Native Americans get very, very upset when they see something that they could use or take better care of than being destroyed. I get mad too. I makes me mad to see oil spills happen on purpose. And other things that I see on the news.
Sincerely,
Amanda
