SSgt. Timothy L. Grier

Fallujah, Iraq - September 2005

Dear SSgt. Timothy Grier USMC,

My name is Jade. I am 9 years old and my birthday is August 15. Thank you for risking you life for fighting for our country. My favorite sports are basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, and swimming. What are your favorite sports? How old are you? When is your birthday? I live in Delmar, home of the Delmar Bobcats. Where do you live? Where did you go to school? In the lab we are writing to soldiers, and learning more about reading. Our teacher wants us to get our grade level better than ever. Right now it is 76 degrees outside. What is the temperature outside over in Fallujah, Iraq? I just saw a picture of a sandstorm. It looks cool. Oh, I almost forgot something, what do you do in Fallujah, Iraq? Please write back.

Your friend,
Jade

Dear Jade,

Thank you for writing me. My favorite sport is lacrosse; I used to play crease defense. I am thirty years old and will be thirty one in November. My wife, Jennifer, and I live in Hubert, North Carolina. I went to a school in Towson, Maryland called Calvert Hall, which is the home of the Cardinals. I hope that you are enjoying school and I know that you have a great teacher! During the day, it is usually between 105-115 degrees and it drops down to about 70 degrees during the night. I am a platoon sergeant, which means that I help 52 other Marines with all kinds of things. I help them get up on time, be where they are supposed to be and make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing.

Thank you for writing Jade!

Your Friend,
Tim

In my spare time, I like to read, play with my dogs and my cat, but most of all, I love to spend time with my wife, Jennifer. The weather here is very hot and dusty. The dust gets everywhere here! I haven’t seen a sandstorm yet, but I have heard that they will come soon. Its cool that you have Betta fish and they have the coolest names ever! Thanks for writing Justin!

Dustin,

Thanks for the letter! I haven’t seen a sandstorm yet, but the Marines that were here before saw a couple. It is very hot here in Fallujah, especially with all of our equipment on. We have to drink a lot of water to keep going over here. I look forward to hearing from you again!

Your Friend,
Tim

Dear Timothy Grier (SSGT)

Hi! My name is Kajol. I like writing letters to people. Thank you for going to Fallujah Iraq. How is the weather over there? How did the sandstorm come? I never saw a sandstorm that is that huge. Does it snow or rain in Fallujah Iraq? In Maryland it snows and rains. If you have time please write back.

Your friend,
Kajol
P.S Also tell me how many sand storms are there?

Kajol,

Thanks for writing me. You have a very interesting name, very cool! The weather here is very hot and there is very little shade. We haven’t had a sandstorm yet, but when we do, I will let you know all about it. I don’t think it ever snows over here, but it does rain. The rain over here is very weird; when it rains, it rains mud. Isn’t that strange? Take care and I will write again.

Your Friend,
Tim

Dear SSgt. Timothy Grier USMC,

Your friend,
Jesse
P.S Please write back.

Jesse,

How are you? Thank you for writing. We haven’t had any sand storms yet, but I have heard that they get very big. If we go through a sand storm, I will make sure that I tell you all about it! Thanks again for writing me.

Tim

Dear SSgt. Timothy Grier,

Hi! My name is Erin. I love writing letters to many people. Thank you for going to Fallujah, Iraq. How did the sandstorm come? How do you like it down there? Do you like the weather there? Does it rain or snow in Iraq? Please write back.

Your Friend,
Erin

Erin,

Thanks for taking the time to write! Though we haven’t gotten a sandstorm yet, it is always dusty here and when we are behind a tank, it seems like we are in a sandstorm! Iraq is very different that the United States. Every time I leave the US, I always miss it. I don’t like the weather here, its too hot, in my opinion, and the dust always gets on my nerves. It does rain here, though it doesn’t snow. Thanks again for writing!

Your Friend,
Tim
